Greg Nisbett's Business Fashion Do's & Don'ts

Dress for success.  Remember, you are marketing a product (yourself). What the contact sees when greeting you is your attire; thus, you must make every effort to have the proper dress for the type of job you are seeking or doing. Dressing properly will give you a competitive edge and a positive first impression.
Standard job interviewing attire for men is a conservative dark navy or grey two-piece business suit (of natural fibres, such as wool, if possible). A white long-sleeved button-down dress shirt.

  1. Do dress the part for the job, the company, the industry.
  2. Do err on the side of conservatism.
  3. Don't chew gum, candy, or have any other objects in your mouth
  4. Do wear a conservative silk tie (that matches the colors in your suit)
  5. Do wear nicely polished dress shoes.
  6. Do wear a belt to match your shoes.
  7. Don't wear a lot of cologne or perfume
  8. Do remove all jewellery, including earrings.
  9. Do properly tie your tie
  10. Do sport well-groomed hairstyle
  11. Do neatly trim beard or moustache
